1. Build Sandcastles on Horseshoe Bay Beach

Let’s be honest, the first thing that the whole family will want to do when they arrive in Bermuda is head to one of the many glorious beaches. There are plenty of amazing options to choose from, but we’d recommend starting with the legendary Horseshoe Bay Beach. At certain times they have Sandcastle Building competitions, which are great fun to enter.

It’s one of the most visited beaches for a reason and is the perfect place to get your first look at Bermuda’s famous pink sand. Spend the afternoon building sandcastles, taking amazing family photos and enjoying a delicious burger at the nearby Rum Bum Beach Bar.

2. Walk the Seabed and Pet Angelfish

Hartley Helmet Diving offers a fantastic activity that the whole family can enjoy. You’ll wear diving helmets, into which they pump oxygen from above, and descend about 10 feet to the reef. The crystal clear water allows you to get up close and personal with the fish and see all of the different species that are native to Bermuda.

Sometimes your tour guide will let you give them treats (provided), or show you some of the tricks that they can do, like swimming through a ring to get a treat on the other side!

The dive lasts around 40 minutes. It’s perfect for kids over five and leaves you with amazing photos and memories.

3. Climb the Wildlife Observation Tower

Cooper’s Island Nature Reserve includes a Wildlife Observation Tower that offers unrivalled views of the peninsula. The area is perfect for spotting tropical birds and the kids will love watching the lizards scurrying over the rocks.

The beaches in this area are quiet and beautiful, making them the perfect setting for an afternoon picnic.

4. Visit the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo

This is an absolute must-do for families visiting Bermuda, no matter how old the children. The aquarium is home to turtles, seals and tropical fish which the kids can get close to. The zoo houses flamingos, monkeys and other exciting animals. There really is something for everyone, you can have lunch there or in other restaurants that are within walking distance.

Plus, there are animal feedings and shows, so you can learn more about the inhabitants of the zoo. Tickets for kids under five are free and they’re only $5 for 5-12 year olds.

5. Learn How Caves are Formed

Just because the kids are on holiday, it doesn’t mean they can’t do a little learning. It won’t feel like “normal” school work though! By visiting Bermuda’s Crystal Caves, they can learn about cave formation and see stunning stalactites and stalagmites first hand. Guided tours are given daily and the beautiful underground pools and stone formations are sure to leave the kids feeling inspired.

6. See the Breathtaking Whale Migration

April is the perfect time of the year to book a whale watching tour in Bermuda. Although we can never guarantee the number of whales you’ll see, this is the best possible time to try because of the huge humpback whale migration that takes place from the Caribbean during March and April.

More than 15,000 whales make the journey, so the odds of your family seeing these incredible animals are very good.

7. Watch the Peppercorn Ceremony Parade

This traditional ceremony has a strange history that dates back to 1816. Each year, on April 24th, there’s a parade to mark the tradition of paying one peppercorn in rent to the Mayor. This is held at King’s Square, St. George’s. It’s an opportunity to see the Bermuda Regimental Band and a 17-gun salute.

This event is perfect for embracing the local culture.

8. Explore the Natural Side of Bermuda

Tom Moore’s Jungle is popular with kids of all ages thanks to the amazing jungle, exotic wildlife and perfect swimming spots. Children will feel like they’re explorers as they make their way along the sprawling jungle walk. The famous Blue Hole is great for cooling off with a quick swim, plus there are places to jump into the deep water from the low cliffs.

There’s also a good chance you’ll see some of the turtles that live in the mangroves or small manta rays that use the mangroves for breeding. You can also explore Southlands Park in Warwick, which is very ‘natural’, or the Botanical Gardens in Paget, which give you insight into some of Bermuda’s rarer and more exotic flora and fauna.

9. Take the Perfect Family Photo at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse

Gibbs Hill Lighthouse offers some of the best views of Bermuda, making it the perfect setting for your new favourite family photo. After you’ve climbed the 185 steps to the top and snapped your selfie, head to the restaurant below and enjoy a delicious meal at one of the most popular spots in Bermuda.

Make sure you book a table ahead of time to avoid disappointment.

10. Snorkel in the Shallow Water at Tobacco Bay Beach

The water at Tobacco Beach is especially crystal because the water is shallow here. It’s also calm as it is protected by a rock formation, the water in April can be cool by Bermudian standards, but for visitors from colder climes it’s still inviting. If you do decide to go for a swim or snorkel with the kids you’ll see blue parrotfish, angelfish and other unique species that are native to Bermuda. Because the water is particularly shallow here, it’s perfect for even the youngest would-be marine biologists.

12. Go to The Agricultural Show

We have a three-day agricultural show in April each year, featuring everything from show jumping, horses, ponies, goats, chickens, pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs, fish tanks and all sorts of arts, crafts and floral displays. Plenty of entertainment for the whole family, with Main Ring entertainment features all day. You’ll all sleep well after this one!
