Highlights of the Sephora Credit Card
There are three separate Sephora credit card options: the Sephora Credit Card, the Sephora Visa Credit Card and the Sephora Visa Signature Credit Card.
The Sephora Credit Card* can only be used at Sephora brick-and-mortar stores and at Sephora.com, while both The Sephora Visa® Credit Card* and the Sephora Visa Signature Credit Card can be used for purchases at other retailers.
The Sephora Credit Card* program is separate from Sephora’s Beauty Insider program, a free rewards program where customers can earn points on most purchases. Beauty Insiders also get a free birthday gift every year and receive access to special deals and sales. You have to sign up separately to join the Beauty Insider club, but you can do so at the same time that you apply for the Sephora Credit Card.
Sephora Credit Card Benefits
All the Sephora credit cards earn 4% back in credit card rewards on every Sephora and Sephora.com purchase. You’ll also get twice as many Beauty Insider points on every Sephora and Sephora.com purchase. Note that the credit card rewards expire just 90 days after being issued, while Beauty Insider points won’t expire until after 12 months of inactivity*.
In addition to the ongoing rewards, you’ll get 25% off your first purchase after being approved for a Sephora credit card. This offer is only valid for the first 30 days after opening the account.
There are some key differences between the Sephora Credit Card and the Sephora Visa Credit Cards. You cannot use the Sephora Credit Card outside of Sephora stores or Sephora.com. Further, it’s not accepted in Canada or at Sephora stores that are located inside other retailers such as JCPenney.
The Sephora Visa® Credit Card*, meanwhile, can be used at most places that accept Visa cards and earns 4% back in credit card Rewards when you use your Sephora Visa® Credit Card in store or online at Sephora, 2X Beauty Insider Points for every $1 spent at Sephora, and 1% back in Credit Card Rewards on purchases outside of Sephora. It also adds an additional welcome offer of $20 Sephora Credit Card Reward after spending $500 outside of Sephora within the first 90 days of account opening. The Sephora Visa Signature Credit Card matches these benefits plus adds perks like roadside service, concierge services and more.
Fees and Interest Rates
The Sephora Credit Card has a 30.74% variable APR. The Sephora Visa and Sephora Visa Signature have a 30.74% or 21.99% variable APR, depending on your credit score.
There is a $10 or 5% balance transfer fee, whichever is higher, for the Sephora Visa card and the Sephora Visa Signature card. The balance transfer APR is 26.99%. Balance transfers are not available with the Sephora Credit Card.
The Sephora Visa card and the Sephora Visa Signature card have a 3.0% of each transaction in U.S. dollars. foreign transaction fee. You cannot use the Sephora Credit Card abroad. None of the three cards have an annual fee.
Who Is Eligible for the Sephora Credit Card?
To qualify for the Sephora Credit Card, you must meet the following criteria:
- Have a Social Security number or State Identification number
- Have a mailing address that is not a P.O. Box
- Be at least 18 years old (or 19 in Alabama and Nebraska or 21 in Mississippi)
You can apply for the card through the Sephora app, online or in store. Sephora does not state its minimum credit score or income requirements.
When you apply for a Sephora credit card, the retailer will determine which of the three cards you are eligible for. Unfortunately, there’s no way to apply for a specific card.
Alternatives to the Sephora Credit Card
If you’re not convinced that a Sephora card is right for you, here are some other options:
Ultamate Rewards® Mastercard® Credit Card*
Sephora’s main competitor is Ulta, a beauty retailer that offers both luxury and drugstore products. Ulta has their own credit card as well, the Ultamate Rewards Mastercard.
When you open this card, you’ll receive 20% off your first purchase and can receive 500 welcome bonus points (worth $17.50 toward a purchase) after you spend at least $500 outside of Ulta Beauty within your first 90 days with the card. Both of those welcome offers are slightly less than what the Sephora Visa cards offer.
Cardholders earn 2 points per dollar spent at Ulta Beauty and 1 point per three dollars spent everywhere else. There is no annual fee.
Target RedCard™ Credit Card*
If you’re more into drugstore products than high-end beauty items, the Target RedCard™ Credit Card* can help you earn rewards and save money. The RedCard has no annual fee and offers a 5% discount when shopping at Target and Target.com. Plus, you’ll get free two-day shipping on most orders.
Customers will also get an extra 30 days to return any item they don’t like – perfect if that lipstick shade doesn’t end up working out for you. Cardholders also receive 2% cash back on restaurant and gas purchases and 1% on all other purchases.
Nordstrom Visa® credit card*
For devotees of name-brand makeup and skincare, the Nordstrom Visa® credit card* may be a better option than the Sephora or Ulta credit cards.
You’ll earn 2 points per dollar spent on the Nordstrom credit card, 3 points per dollar spent at the Ambassador and Icon status level and 1 point per dollar spent everywhere else Visa® credit cards are accepted. Rewards can be redeemed for discounts at Nordstrom department stores and Nordstrom.com.
The card provides early access to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and free two-day shipping in some areas. Cardholders also receive three Personal Double Points Days so they can earn twice the points three times a year.

Who Should Get the Sephora Credit Card?
If most of your beauty purchases are from Sephora, you could benefit from opening a Sephora Credit Card. For example, if you spend $1,000 at Sephora, you’ll earn $40 in credit card rewards—enough for a couple of mascaras or an eyeshadow palette.
This does not include the extra Beauty Insider points that you’ll earn, which you can also redeem for makeup, skincare and haircare products. Plus, if you have your eyes on a pricey beauty product, using your 25% off coupon could potentially save you hundreds of dollars.
But if you mostly buy drugstore makeup and skincare, you’re probably better off getting a general cash-back credit card.
